A fantastic "Journey of Discovery" awaits visitors to Te Atatu Peninsula this March as the inaugural sculpture exhibition in support of Hospice West Auckland, at Harbourview Walkway on Te Atatu Peninsula gets under way.

This exciting exhibition of 45 sculptures will be displayed for 3 weeks in March along a trail through a unique salt marsh area with ponds and stunning views across the Waitemata Harbour to Auckland City, the Harbour Bridge and Rangitoto Island beyond.

The 45 artworks in this exhibition, from 35 contemporary New Zealand artists have been chosen for their connection to the rich local history and the natural uniqueness of this salt marsh area that surrounds the Te Atatu Peninsula that was once kauri forest and peat swamps. Several artworks also comment on social and political issues that affect communities and environments in this area, greater Auckland and globally. Artworks are all for sale.

Many different forms of sculpture representing contemporary sculptural practice including kinetic, wood, ceramic, mixed media, glass, metal, plastic, sound, installation and water based works will be displayed along the trail linking the wetland ponds.

There will also be an exhibition of outdoor art designed and made by the local primary, intermediate and secondary schools who are painting murals and creating smaller sculptural objects for display along the trail.

Children will be catered for with exciting activity sheets to engage them in learning more about the sculptures and art making.

Tours with the curator, Sally Lush, featuring talks by selected artists will be available each Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 11am.

Harbourview Walkway is located on Te Atatu Road with the entrance to the Right at the first roundabout (Gloria Ave) as you come into the peninsula just a short distance from the Northwestern Motorway. Look out for the blue and orange flags.
