Handshake is an innovative mentorship program - the brainchild of contemporary jeweller Peter Deckers. At the beginning of 2011 he paired 12 graduate jewellers with the artists who most inspire them. The 12 ‘apprentices’ teamed up with their jeweller idols, exchanging images and ideas through email, Skype and face-to-face conversations. The collaboration has resulted in a series of local and internationally based exhibitions. This exhibition at Toi Pōneke Gallery marks the first anniversary of Handshake.
