Enjoy a Sunday afternoon in front of the fire at Hilton Lake Taupo and meet iconic kiwi comedian, Raybon Kan.
This is a unique opportunity to hear Raybon talk first hand about the his long career - and how it all started in journalism.
Named Best Comedian by Metro and North & South, Raybon is one of New Zealand’s most iconic comedians. Reader’s Digest listed him in the 50 Most Trusted Kiwis; and David Hartnell once listed him among NZ’s Top 10 Worst Dressed. Raybon has performed at comedy festivals in Montreal, Edinburgh, and Melbourne, and sold out comedy tours nationwide.
Raybon's career in humour began in newspapers and magazines. While studying law at Victoria University, he won the Dominion Journalism Scholarship, which opened the door to writing a TV column. His humour columns appeared in The Dominion, The Listener and The Sunday Star-Times.
Three books of humour followed: Five Days in Las Vegas (Daphne Brasell), America on Five Bullets a Day (Hodder Moa Beckett), and An Asian at my Table (Penguin.) He co-wrote the screenplay for the New Zealand comedy-horror film Diagnosis: Death, a ghost story set in the world of clinical drug trials.
A quiz addict, Raybon won the TV IQ quiz Test the Nation three times, and appeared on the American game show Wheel of Fortune. Raybon’s acting credits include Spooked (Geoff Murphy), I’ll Make You Happy (Athina Tsoulis) and Tongan Ninja and Diagnosis: Death (Jason Stutter). Raybon once made a TV documentary about his two-month stint training to be a casino dealer.
