F.A.W.C! - Winemakers Day Off

Join Church Road Senior Winemaker Chris Scott and local fishing expert Grant Petherick for a “Winemakers Day Off” with a difference.

Your day will begin at Church Road winery where you will fuel up with a coffee and meet Chris, Grant and your fellow fishing companions. Relax in 4-wheel drive comfort for your journey to our fishing destination on one of Hawke’s Bay’s most popular fishing rivers. If this is your first fishing experience rest assured that Grant and his guides will show you the ropes. For those with more experience, you will have the opportunity to make the most of your time on the river.

Once you’ve enjoyed a couple of hours fishing it’s time to head back to Church Road for a well deserved hearty lunch. Your taste-buds will be tantalised with a delicious four-course lunch prepared by Malcolm Redmond of Breckenridge Lodge, accompanied by wine from Church Road. Chris and Malcolm will share their inspiration for this wine-matched meal and teach you a little about the history and winemaking at Church Road-one of New Zealand’s oldest wineries.

Complete your Church Road experience with a visit to New Zealand’s only wine museum, concluding in the Church Road Cellar Door where you’ll be given a bottle of Church Road’s finest to take away and enjoy.

If the weather sets in and you can’t make it out to the river you will spend the morning touring the winery with senior winemaker Chris Scott, tasting from the barrel and tank and taking part in a hands on blending session.
Once you have blended the perfect wine we will resume the scheduled programme and head over to the restaurant for a delicious four-course lunch, finishing up with a visit to New Zealand’s only wine museum, concluding in the Church Road Cellar Door where you’ll be given three bottles of Church Road’s finest to take away and enjoy.

Winemakers Day Off is part of F.A.W.C! Food and Wine Classic. F.A.W.C! is a series of “out of the box” unique food and wine experiences set in stunning locations in Hawke’s Bay.
