In ‘The Memory Archive’ Evan Woodruffe comes full circle, exploring how the freedom, adventure and fearlessness of his childhood informs and revives the present. Drawing on the Maori proverb ‘we walk into the future facing backwards’ he explains, “we exist at every point on our timeline at once. The past is the present and we walk into the future hand-in-hand with ourselves.”

Woodruffe sources images that match his own experiences and re-imagines the life of these found images, freed from its specific time and place through the translation and editing of painting, to become a more universal depiction of our human condition.
