EcoWars Launch Event

EcoWars 2012 is set to launch on Saturday 17th March 2012, kicking off in the Square.

We have all seen or heard about 'The Amazing Race'. Well, teams kick off this competition by competing in an EcoWars Amazing Race around the city to find the top 10 teams to battle it out in the workshops.

Come along and watch the teams do what they can to make the cut.

Save your wallet and the world.

Student City’s pitting flat against flat and neighbour against neighbour in an epic series of sustainability workshops designed to save your wallet and the world. It follows the inaugural EcoWars competition that hit the mighty Manawatu in 2011 and it has taken the place by storm.

So, gather up your flatties and prepare to eco up your act with Eco Wars 2012!

What’s involved?
Ten teams of four flatties will go head to head in their quest to save dosh, save the world and win prizes. Big prizes!

Six workshops over eight weeks will provide tips, tricks and ideas on stretching the student dollar. At the end of each workshop, teams will receive a clue, which must be solved to reveal the next location and theme for the workshop.

Teams will be given video cameras to document their eco adventures. Other students and members of the Palmerston North community will vote for their favourite videos on the Student City website and provide support along the way.

Points will be collected, spot prizes will be dished out and changes will be made. Will you be part of the eco action?

Big prizes:
That’s right, the prizes are so BIG, we’ve employed the power of capital letters. Spot prizes will be dished out to teams along the way and we’ll be having an awards evening to cap it all off in early May.

Big prizes include:
- Eco-rated white ware package for their flat;
- Mystery weekend package away for the flat.

Now this competition isn't just for students, landlords can compete as well.

We all have a part to play when it comes to sustainability. Just a few simple changes to your property could help your tenants live more comfortable, eco-friendly lives and increase the value of your rental. It could even win you prizes!

Have a chat to your tenants about ways to create a more eco-friendly living environment. Ideas range from planting a vegetable garden and improving insulation to installing a heat pump. If they are participating in Eco Wars, get in behind their efforts and encourage them to give it their all.

Best landlord prize:
The landlord judged the best by our panel of eco judges will receive a Healthy Home Kit to the value of $5,000. This includes a consultation with home heating advisor Dale Stone of Stone Climate Control and heat pump as well as an insulation retrofit from the Insulation Company.

Now if that doesn't scream big prizes, we don't know what does!
