Always wanted to learn some acting skills but didn't know where to go? Why not try Howick Little Theatre's fun, supportive, school-term-based classes for adults, with Ben Crowder, a very experienced drama tutor and much-in-demand professional theatre director? A co-founder of the innovative Auckland-based theatre company ‘Theatre Stampede’, Ben is renowned for his high-energy teaching style, which ensures that classes are both constructive and enjoyable. He directed Auckland Theatre Company's first production for 2011, Robert Lord's Well Hung.
The adult class is from 7pm to 9pm on Mondays.
The older teens class is from 4.30 to 6.30pm on Mondays.
Class content:
Classes are structured to allow the individual student to learn and be challenged in a fun environment. It is not necessary for any of the participants to have existing drama experience - a strong desire to be there and a willingness to try new things is all that is required (though a sense of humour is a plus!). A range of theatrical devices, games, styles, exercises and devised provocations will be used. Focus will be given to character development and storytelling, and students will learn much and grow in confidence. There will also be a strong emphasis on creating work. Students will be encouraged to free their imaginations and explore the notion of play as a creative tool, while also learning to trust their abilities to communicate through physical expression.
Enrolment evening:
Tuesday 31st January 2012, 6:30pm to 8pm at HLT.
Monday class dates:
Term 1: Mon, 6 February-2 April (9 weeks including Waitangi Day);
Term 2: Mon, 23 April-25 June (9 weeks excluding Queen’s Birthday);
Term 3: Mon, 16 July-10 Sept (9 weeks);
Term 4: Mon, 15 Oct-10 Dec (9 weeks including Labour Day).
NB: drama classes for children up to age 13 are held on Tuesdays. See the website for details.
Presentations:
In-class presentations will be staged during the year and there will also be an opportunity to share work with friends and family later in the year.
