Dirt Box Charlie - Homegrown Blues Trio

Palmerston North local blues boys ‘Dirt Box Charlie’ are no strangers to the Manawatu music scene. Catch the trio playing at Murray's Irish Bar for a night of full volume, earth lifting blues.

With Chris Gain on vocals and guitar, Michael Crawford on bass, and Hayden Lauridsen on drums & percussion, DBC promise to deliver what they’re known for - hard rockin’ blues-soul. “We thrive on the improvisation and spontaneity of live shows... each of us bring ideas and unique flavour to the table, given we’re all influenced by a range of rhythm & blues music, old and new...” Gain explains.

“All the rules go out the window when we play... we’re kind of addicted to those moments where you’re just letting your emotions and expressions run wild... but the ultimate goal for us is to take the audience there too.”

The trio (who sometimes become a 7-piece group when they feel like it) launched an all original EP in 2011 called ‘Extended Play’. Now Charlie are working on their new ‘untitled’ album, which is due out later in the year.
