If, as some commentators claim, a renaissance is taking place in New Zealand jazz, Tim Hopkins is surely one of its leading lights, and Seven (Rattle Jazz) one of its seminal achievements.
The album, conceived for a bass-less trio of saxophone, guitar and drums, was part of his masters thesis and has just been nominated for a 2012 Tui Award.
Hopkins is joined by Dixon Nacey (guitar) and John Rae (drums) for one night only at CJC.
