‘Collective Conversations’ opens on Tuesday 31 January 2012 and showcases recent artworks from the Spark Centre Artists’ Collective. The printmaking, sculpture and painting featured represents the centre’s philosophy of inclusion through practising art.
This group of artists take the print medium beyond the normal format by working collaboratively to produce large-scale prints to display across the 10 metre-long gallery wall. By working together, the artists create a print installation that is interrelated in colour palette, technique and subject matter.
Also on show is a collection of drawings and sculptures created in a yearlong art project that have been inspired by the human figure in natural and urban environments.
Dedicated artist John Penman will exhibit a new series of abstract landscape paintings for the first time. Penman’s distinctive style of painting includes a bold use of colour, space and expressive mark making.
“We will be proud to show the creative, vibrant work being produced by the diverse artists at Spark Centre,” says curator and studio co-ordinator, Arie Hellendoorn.
Spark Centre is a creative space offering visual arts programmes and activities for artists of all abilities. Over 80 adults and children currently attend weekly art programmes. Particular provision is made for people living with diverse life experience: with disabilities, impairment, or other social and personal need.
