“Watermark”, a textile art installation, is opening at Trio Gallery on Monday 16 July 2012. Wellington artist, Clare Smith will be exhibiting fabric dyeing in 'real-time'. The exhibition will consist of five white-on-white cotton wall-hangings. Each day, one new artwork will be transformed by having dye slowly trickled down from above. Each will slowly change colour as dye spreads through the fabric.
This exhibition runs from 16-20 July from 10am-5pm daily at a new gallery space, Trio Gallery, on the first floor of the Whitireia Media Training Centre, 15 Dixon Street, Wellington City.
“This will be quite a mesmerizing process to watch” said Clare. “As the dye spreads through the fabric it doesn't just run straight down, it follows the stitching lines in the image and slowly reveals the full design.”
The exhibition has an environmental theme and examines issues of water pollution, water use and consumerism.
