Chip & His Dog is a mini fantasy opera for the young at heart. Presented by talented young singers, this fully staged short opera will be performed at Opera Factory as part of the Opera Rocks development programme. Included in the performance will be songs by New Zealand composer Philip Norman set to Margaret Mahy’s poem cycle “Witches Clowns & Promises”.
Chip runs a musical instrument shop, and he’s clever but poor. His dog is his best friend and clever too. But, when Chip agrees to sell his dog to the Princess to help make her happy and for a better life, not everything works out as planned. For a moment it looks like he’s made a big mistake!
This delightful tale of master and dog, of friendship and laughter, reminds us of the importance of ‘love with out measure’. Directed by Linda Kitchen and performed by an enthusiastic cast, this is a great opportunity to introduce young people to musical theatre close up and broaden their minds. Included for all audience members is a full backstage tour.
The Factory Theatre is a small fringe theatre, conveniently located in Newmarket, accessible by public transport and surrounding street and public parking.
