Children's Food festival

If dinner time fussiness leaves your kids running on empty and drives you around the bend, then the Children’s Food Festival is the answer! This weekend-long celebration of food and cooking is devoted to young people, and designed to turn fussies into foodies.

Set in the grounds of Riccarton House, on offer will be a range of exciting and educational activities to get children interested and involved, including: the McCain Red Veggie Truck, Kids’ Market Days, Cheeky Monkeys face painting, cooking demonstrations, Mitre 10 Mega bouncy castle and much more.

Children’s activities/classes:
Thursday 9th and Friday 10th August
After-school cooking class with chef Jamie Bennett. Children will then be able to sell the products made in the classes at the Farmers market on Saturday (3 children each day).

Saturday 11th August: 9am-12noon (during the Christchurch Farmers Market)
McCain Schools Veggie Patch Programme - free to attend;
Children’s farmers market stalls (no limit) - farmers market products only;
Children’s vegetable planting - potted into bio cups (no limit);
Pasta-making class (Limit 4);
Fresh tomato sauce class (limit 4);
Macaroni and cheese class (limit 4);
Cupcakerie cupcake decorating (limit 8);
Children’s baking class (limit 8).

Sunday 12th August: 10am-2pm during the Sunday Artisan Market
Children’s market stalls (no limit);
Children’s vegetable planting - potted into bio cups (no limit);
Cooking class - sunday brunch (limit 6);
Craft activities;
Recycled Treasure Competition - get creative with rubbish! Bring along anything that you have made out of recycled materials or rubbish to the Sunday market and win a $50 market shopping voucher.
