Tuesday carving & casting class: beginners and advanced, 6 – 9 pm (8 weeks)

Tutor: Vaune Mason
The next class will begin 1 May, 2012

This class is suitable for beginners and experienced students and covers carving in several areas:

Simple and beautiful earrings like these bronze pods were made by a student in our last carving intensive.

In jeweller’s wax for casting into precious metals, so you can learn to create your own designs simply and easily.

In wood, so you can learn to select beautiful recycled woods to shape the wood into simple forms or more complex delicate creations for use as pendants, earrings, or as part of a larger silver piece. Wood is one of the nicest materials to work, it is easy to source recycled wood, it is non toxic, and can easily be worked in a variety of ways. With the price of silver rising, it is also a great alternative material!

You will also learn cuttlefish casting, the simplest, most hands-on and quickest method of casting.

Your waxes will be sent away to a professional casting company to be cast in the metal of your choice.

Course fees include some basic materials and casting fees. Your metal choice is additional, and can cost as little as $1.00 for bronze. Wax and wood provided, as well as burrs and safety equipment. Own Dremel or Foredom is a plus!
