In the past, the worship of sun and lunar deities was common to many cultures. As a result of the observation of solar and lunar changes, I have taken this as a starting point from which to explore the way in which we try to find explanations for our life experiences, and attach meaning to them.
The imagery used has its origins in solar and lunar symbols, and also includes images which are suggestive of objects of worship or items used as part of a rite or ritual.
The works reference the way in which myths, theories and belief systems are built up over time, passing through modifications and changes, as part of our need to understand and make sense of the world.
My working method is closely related to the ideas inherent in the works, using the stitchery to join together the various elements in order to suggest change, reassessment and the creation of new meanings. The breaking down and unravelling of the threads is another reminder of constant change and impermanence.
There is a sense of mystery and magic in the works. In contrast to our drive to seek explanations and achieve a sense of certainty, there is also a fascination with the inexplicable and the mysterious.
