Auckland artist Campbell Patterson's ongoing video series, Lifting my Mother for as Long as I Can (2006–2011) literally records the artist holding his mother in his arms, at the same place and time each year.
Patterson is not a performance artist in the sense that he performs live to an audience; instead, he creates private actions that are captured by the camera. His work explores the emotional and physical limits of his own body under set conditions and limitations.
