Where: Colleen Murray Dance Centre, 520 Cranford St, Papanui, Christchurch City Show map
Restrictions: R18
Ticket Information:
- 10 classes: $120.00
- Casual: $15.00
This course is run approximately every 3 months with a in-house end of term student performance where ladies perform for others within the same class group or the chance to perform as a graduating student at our quarterly student graduations or amatuer performances to a live audience.
We have been running this class and graduation shows in Christchurch for the last 2 years.
Each student will be given the opportunity to perform an original solo act with possibilities of duos and trios as well as choreographed troupe peice.
Classes currently run monday evenings at colleen murrays dance studio 7:10pm (with a second class Saturday mornings from 10-11am at our new training space at 477e Blenheim road.)
This course is tailor made for those with little or no dance experience and all ages over 18 are welcome. This is predominantly an esteem-building and introductory course with the focus on fitness, fun and appreciation of the natural female form.
It is possible to secure a place with a $20 deposit with the remaining to be paid by the 2nd week.
Note- no refunds will be given once course has started, however the first week is a taster and if you choose not to continue then you will not be required to make any payments.
During the term you will learn the history, basics, movements and style of true burlesque and neo-burlesque. Comfortable clothing that allows you to move is best and we recommend you bring a water bottle to classes. (No heels/hard soled shoes are to be worn due to the nature of the newly laid sprung wooden floor in our new venue, we prefer bare feet.)
Some subjects covered are:
- Introduction to the history of burlesque;
- The art of the strut, dance within burlesque;
- Poise, pause and the art of tasteful reveal;
- Basic costuming;
- Glamour, showgirl and burlesque make-up;
- Dress rehearsals & performance.
