The Auckland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Peter Thomas, joins forces with one of New Zealand’s top organists to showcase the refurbished Auckland Town Hall pipe organ.
Director of Music at Parnell’s Holy Trinity Cathedral, Timothy Noon, will feature in Saint-Saëns’ famous Organ Symphony playing the final movement best recognised as the theme from the hit film Babe.
The afternoon family concert’s programme also includes music from the scores of film favourites Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as well as a movement from Dvorak’s Symphony No.8 and a rousing Salute to Big Bands.
Making a guest appearance alongside accordionist Stephanie Poole will be the orchestra’s music director emeritus Gary Daverne, performing a work he composed for orchestra and accordion. Also joining the orchestra as soloist is amazing clarinettist Finn Schofield.
The community concert is a family-friendly event with an orchestral programme designed to entertain all ages.
Entry is free and no bookings are required.
