In celebration and exploration of the Chinese creative energy, the Gallery will be hosting free film screenings every Sunday afternoon for 8 weeks until the close of 'The Asian' by Heather Straka. Courtesy of the Chinese Consulate General.

22 Jan - Chinese Lion Dance (D) 28 mins
A closer look at one of the glittering symbols of Chinese civilisation, and how the Chinese lion dance incorporates elements of religious beliefs, art, acrobats and martial arts.

29 Jan - Keeping Watch on the Terraces (D) 30 mins
Mount Ailao is a unique mountain, it is covered by more than 3,000 grid terraces. This documentary looks into the lives of the Hani people who live here, and the challenges they face.

5 Feb - The Queen of Cooking (F) 90 mins
Chunxi, a village girl, travels to the capital by herself. Chunxi learns some hard lessons in love, and is taught cooking skills from the great masters. But how will she fare in the great cooking competition?

12 Feb - Tea Culture (D) 30 mins
China was the first country to discover, cultivate, process and use tea. Find our more about the vast varieties, styles, health benefits and cultural contexts. A beautifully made documentary.

19 Feb - The King of Mi-Lu Deer (C S) 90 mins
Follow the sacred Mi-lu deer's adventure as he attempts to brings spring to the world. Suitable for a younger audience.

26 Feb - Forever Enthralled (F S) 138 mins
Mei Lanfang was born into a family of well known Peking Opera singers in Beijing 1849, he dreams of taking Peking Opera to the world stage but faces many prejudices along the way.

4 March - Inheritance of Chinese Culture (D) 30 mins
During the Spring Festival (The most important festival in China) watch as the ancestors pass down in a distinctive way the essentials of traditional Chinese culture and ethics.

11 March - Confucius (F S) 120 mins
Confucius, son of a noble family in decline, is worried about the chaos in society and hopes his ideas and wisdom can provide a solution. He is faced with political intrigue but will he convince the rulers?
