The Bible is packed with precious faceted jewels, stars of hope – words that hold such deep meaning they can bring us to our knees in awe. Some of what we are presented with in our Bibles has lost its meaning in our modern society, being disconnected from its roots and becoming the domain of the experts. How many times have you heard certain passages of scripture and they no longer engage you? The familiarity of a passage, and of set prayers, can dull our senses and lead us into a dry desert. Yet Jesus spoke to ordinary people in his native tongue Aramaic and a paradigm shift occurred.
Here is a chance to be re-inspired by reflecting together on The Lord’s Prayer translated from the Aramaic, and discovering the surprising layers of meaning which Aramaic presents through the translation work of Neil Douglas-Klotz.
