One of the major writers of his generation, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and short story writer Jeffrey Eugenides has followed up the enormous successes of The Virgin Suicides (2003) and Middlesex (2002) with his new novel The Marriage Plot (2012), in which Madeleine Hanna contemplates a post-university life with either brilliant but troubled boyfriend Leonard Bankhead or besotted friend Mitchell Grammaticus.
The Marriage Plot is distinguished by beautifully crafted language, an intimate tone and scale, and clever literary underpinnings. Eugenides talks about his writing in conversation with Kate De Goldi.
