Booker Prize winner and Irishman Roddy Doyle first stole our hearts with his novel The Commitments (1987), which was turned into the incredibly popular 1991 film of the same name.
Since then he has published a further 10 novels, books for children and collections of short stories, including the Booker Prizewinner Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha (1993).
His captivating combination of wit, compassion and lyrical turn of phrase continue to earn him accolades worldwide. Doyle’s latest story collection Bullfighting (2011) examines the lives of Dubliners – mostly male, mostly middle-aged and mostly as bewildered as the eponymous bull.
He joins NZ broadcaster, media consultant and raconteur Brian Edwards for readings and conversation in this special Friday evening event.
