The Amici Ensemble for this concert consists of NZSO musicians Donald Armstrong and Cristina Vaszilcsin (violins), Julia Joyce (viola) and Rowan Prior (cello).
The concert will feature pianist Diedre Irons, who joins the Amici Ensemble for the mighty Brahms Quintet for Piano and Strings in F minor and the beautiful Mozart Piano Quartet in G minor. Also featured is the fascinating string quartet Ainsi la nuit by Dutilleux, each movement of which highlights various special effects: pizzicato, glissandi, harmonics, extreme registers, and contrasting dynamics.
