The National Alpaca Expo is run by Alpaca Association New Zealand. The event showcases the attributes of alpaca through both display and competition of breed and fleece classes. The National Alpaca Expo doubles both as our National Championship and as a showcase for the public. There will be trade sites, educational displays, fashion and creative alpaca craft displays, continuous commentaries, entertainment, refreshments and a host of other activities to entertain exhibitors and the public.
Alpacas have become a very popular animal for lifestyle block owners. While needing some ongoing care, alpacas are one of the easier farm animals to look after. It is estimated that there are around 12,000 animals in New Zealand with over 600 members of the Alpaca Association New Zealand.
The Expo is a wonderful opportunity for members of the public to find out more about alpacas and to make contact with breeders from around the country. Breeders are happy to discuss owning alpacas and show off their show animals. The best alpacas from around the country will be on display and it is a fabulous opportunity to find out more about these amazing animals from people who currently own a herd. Breeders attending the show will have varying size of farms ranging from a few alpacas through to the largest herds which can number over 400 animals.
