Ak Jazz & Blues Club presents - Young Um Group

Korea born Jazz pianist, Young Um, has classically trained since age 4. She performed Mozart piano concerto with Bu-Cheon Symphony Orchestra in Korea when she was 15. Her interests in classical has continued and widen up as she studied classical composition at Yon-Sei University. Since she graduated, she has worked for national broad casting compony (MBC, EBS) as a music composer and she composed a myriad of music for TV programme.

In 2001 she came to New Zealand and studied Jazz at Massey university tutored by Phil Broadhurst. She has performed as Young Um Quartet with Barry Young, Alberto Santarelli, Seteven Morton Jones at Pump House winter Jazz, Auckland summer series at Domain Park, concerts at Massey Uni. And also performed with many other musicians.

She found the Young Um trio with the Auckland's finest musicians Jason Orme on Drums and Olivier Holland on Bass and recorded her debut album 'Distance' along with Neville Grenville, Cat Tunks and Chris Mason-Battlely.

Young Um quartet will play from her compositions to standards. Featuring special guest Cat Tunks on vocals.
