The real “git up 'n' go“ band. Boogie rock , blues rock, plus original material. Fronted by UK guitarist Tony Painting. Born in Birmingham, England started playing in local pubs & clubs in the early Seventies.
Formed rock band ‘New England’ (Deep Purple-style) with some success, even supporting Ozzy Ozbourne’s ‘Blizzard of Oz’. Changed style and joined a punk band ’The Sussed’, got signed to the same recording label as UB40 and had a single played on national radio.
Late 80s formed ‘The Band of Gypsys’ playing boogie blues guitar rock, and recorded The Band of Gypsys CD which got national air play and secured many festivals (Bulldog Bash Biker gig, 80,000 people), pubs, clubs & support gigs. Playing with & supporting Ozzy Ozbourne, Jools Holland Big Band, The Groundhogs , Robert Plant, Steve Gibbons, Budgie, Ruby Turner to name a few.
Moved to New Zealand and formed The Power with seasoned Kiwi musicians Ken Green (keyboards), Mark Dunasement (bass) and Mick Beck (drums).
Playing covers from Albert King, Robert Cray, Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Eric Clapton. Plus original material off the Tony Painting (Band of Gypsys) CD (Kiwi edition).
