Finely Tuned vocal group have been together since 2008, beginning life as a chamber music group at Waikato University. Their love of jazz harmonies sees them perform hits of the Andrews Sisters, Duke Ellington through to contemporary composers Kirby Shaw and Mac Huff. Finely Tuned performs at conferences, jazz clubs and concerts throughout the North Island.
Backed by the fabulous Queen City Big band and performing hits from the Andrew Sisters and Manhatten Transfer.
The Queen City Big Band was formed in 1979. Consisting of 20 musicians and vocalists, the band exists to develop and train the young jazz musicians of Auckland.
With over 1000 titles in an extensive library of music, Queen City Big Band presents swing music from the stars of the big band era like Duke Ellington, Glen Millar and Count Basie, right through to music composed by contemporary jazz artists such as Tom Kubis, Bob Florence, Gordon Goodwin as well as R&B, rock n roll and pop music.
A professional musical director, a management committee and support team of a sound technician and a librarian provide the management and musical expertise required to maintain a professional standard of presentation and musicianship.
Although the band's players are unpaid, a professional standard is expected and maintained under the leadership of John Callesen. All revenue earned through professional engagements is directed back into the band in the form of sheet music, tuition and education, sound equipment, uniforms etc.
