Established in 2000, the Band Experiments is a ‘battle of the bands’ format music competition with a twist! The event features bands of many different styles and has a great reputation for choosing local Waikato bands who have moved on to great national success. Previous contenders have been Cornerstone Roots, Sora Shima, Knights of the Dub Table and Dick Dynamite and the Doppelgangers .

The winning prize package for this year includes:
- One 12-hour day recording in York St’s prestigious Studio A
- Music video produced by Chasing Time Productions
- Music distribution through Border Music Ltd
- Online music distribution through DRM NZ Ltd
- Band photoshoot with Amanda Shoots Bands
- CD pressings
- Paid O-Week gig at Waikato University, courtesy of the Waikato Students Union.
