Following a long history of events held in Taranaki, the Taranaki Wave Classic will continue to put the emphasis on fun.

The event will be an Expression Session format, where competitors will free-sail in whatever conditions occur at the chosen location for that day. There will be no heats, no man on man elimination and no stress. The top 10 riders will be selected for a super session.

The emphasis at this event is about participation, so as long as you can look after yourself on the water you don't have to be able to loop or carve - there will be opportunities to talk to the guns, and there are 'introduction to wavesailing' clinics held at the beach. The social side is great, the prizes are awesome (and they are spot prizes) and the opportunities to see great sailing, get great photos and meet great people make it worth the trip.

Another awesome event - warm up day at Waitara was as strong 4m or less for most. Saturday at Kina was on the light side with only a few venturing out over the rocks. Sunday back at Waitara was promising and most got out on larger gear, 5m-6m, pretty laid-back day all told, then back to Oakura for the party! Great food, heaps of spot prizes from awesome sponsors (thanks guys and gals). No result this year as not enough quality conditions, so roll on next year. Evening finished off with the RWC final on the big screen - just squeeked a result there though!
