In a large room in Wellington a spirit is stirring. Band members and vocalists are focused on their material. The rhythm is irrepressible, the music is celebratory southern blues/country, with lyrical messages of hope and support. Gospel!

On Friday November 25 at the beautiful Old St Paul’s, some of the best musicians and vocalists in Wellington will appear in various line ups in The Capital Gospel Show, a two hour review of roots blues and country gospel music. The bar and food are available from 6.30.

It’s hard to stand still to good roots gospel let alone sit so the audience will be invited to move and be moved.

Roots gospel is enjoying a resurgence with new releases by Aaron Neville, Mavis Staples, and the Blind Boys of Alabama.
