The Big Night Out 2011

After the stellar success of last year’s inaugural Big Night Out, Ascension Wine Estate is hosting another Labour Weekend birthday party to celebrate 11 years in the region.

The Big Night Out, to be held on Saturday, October 22, opens at 3.30pm with live music from 4:30pm, the all-time 1959 classic Hitchcock American thriller, North by Northwest on the massive outdoor cinema screen from 8:00pm and a fantastic fireworks finale from 10:00pm.

Late afternoon entertainment includes NZ Blues Brothers Tribute Show followed by the Lazyboyz Legends of Rock, playing covers of all the classic hits from legendary bands including The Beatles, Stones, Kiss, Queen, AC/DC, Nirvana and The Who.

To celebrate the venue’s 11th birthday, the first 1100 tickets are available for purchase at $25.00 each (a discount of 50%) with remaining tickets at $50.00.

Kids under 14 are given free admittance, and guests are welcome to pack and bring their own picnic baskets – although these must not include alcohol or glass. Wine, beer and softdrinks, as well as wood fired pizzas, German sausages, gourmet burgers & seafood fritters, will be available for purchase on site.

Says Darryl Soljan, the Chief Bottle Washer of Ascension Wine Estate:

“The Big Night Out 2010 was only ever intended to be a one off family event to celebrate Ascension’s 10th anniversary. Since then however, people have been asking ‘what music & movie have you planned for this Labour Weekend – we want to bring our friends!’”

Soljan attributes the success of the event to the allure of a safe, fun and great value-for-money night out with family and friends.

“The experience of sitting outdoors in the middle of the vines listening to fabulous music and enjoying a classic movie on the big screen is quite special, plus this year we have bought even more fireworks!”

The Big Night Out 2011 is part of the REAL New Zealand Festival for Rugby World Cup 2011.
