THE EDGE is delighted to announce the return season of the smash-hit production from the Auckland Fringe, The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer. A show that has garnered 5 star reviews in Edinburgh and around the world, it will be playing from November 3rd.
Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer is a multi award-winning one-man micro-epic puppet show that fuses animation, mime and puppetry into a tiny tale set in the deepest darkest blue sea, about a solitary explorer with a heart as big as a whale. It was one of the beloved ‘family friendly’ favourites of the 2011 Auckland Fringe, drawing sell-out crowds during its stint at The Basement Theatre and earning itself rave reviews. The show has been hailed by critics for its originality and endearing storytelling, while audiences were left spellbound by the captivating performance which engaged both young and young at heart.
“A genuine all-ages work. Adults will respond to its melancholy and the depth of Tim Watts's vision. Children will find Alvin's exploration of the underwater world both beguiling and delightful.” – Sydney Morning Herald
“…Absolutely the first ‘must-see' of Auckland Fringe 2011” – Theatreview
The seas have risen, billions have died, and those who remain live on farms on top of skyscrapers, on top of mountains. Now science and humanity are turning to the oceans themselves. It is up to Alvin Sputnik to venture through the mysterious depths to find a place for the human race to live in peace once more.
“…magical moments of imaginative character creation… that make the entire audience coo”. – The Independent
The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer is created and performed by Tim Watts, (Weeping Spoon Productions) an international award winning writer/deviser, director, performer, puppeteer and animator, who has performed and created shows all over the world.
“Tim Watts makes us care deeply and completely about a puppet that is little more than a glorified hand and ball. That’s theatre magic” – Theatre Scenes NZ
“If Pixar had a theatrical division… they’d create something like this show.” – NYTheatre.com
The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer is "...Pure theatrical magic...” – NZ Herald
