"Helping Hands Somalia famine relief" - I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something.

Syon Entertainments, an event promotion company, in association with Save The Children and the AUSA at UniTec have been deeply moved by the tragedies in Somalia, particularly the famine that threatens the lives of millions of the world’s most defenceless and most innocent – children.

It was reported that last week alone, over 29,000 children died from starvation in Somalia. Now, with over 12,000,000 more children facing death from starvation in coming days, weeks and months, Syon Entertainments believe it is time to act. In order to act, we would humbly like to offer an idea to align an event with your charity.

New Zealanders are globally renowned for their generosity and although New Zealand itself is in the midst of a recession, we truly believe the New Zealand public will rise to this occasion, dig deep and help the innocents in Somalia.

Auckland City, and New Zealand as a whole have been warm in offering homes for Somalian refugees and immigrants within our hugely diverse, multi-cultured communities. However, Syon Entertainments understands that in these times of busy schedules and great stress on the family unit through increased work demands, some times the greater population neglect to involve themselves in our new citizen’s own culture, and their own lifestyle practices to help assist them in fully embracing New Zealand life.

It is with this observation Syon Entertainments in association with Save The Children wish to raise awareness of the plights of our brothers and sisters in Somalia. We wish to hold a day of solidarity and of celebration of the diversity that makes up Auckland’s various African communities by offering traditional food and cultural stalls, where members of the African community can share their rich and diverse cultures with other New Zealanders. Various performances by some of our established and up and coming artist & entertainers.

Coupled with a fun session of Zumba for those who are keen, along with educational speeches and literature from those in the Somalian community able and willing to share their experiences, Syon Entertainments aims to provide Aucklanders with a welcome break from their normal lives, and an educational insight into a new community that have made Auckland home.

New friendships, new experiences and new respects aim to be formed here. All the while, with proceeds going directly to the youth of Somalia through the Save The Children Foundation.
