This session features two first time novelists. Tanya Moir wrote ‘La Rochelle’s Road’ (Random 2011). It is set in mid-19th century Akaroa, a tough place for idealists, artists and those accustomed to the ‘civilities’ of ‘home.’ Hamish Clayton wrote ‘Wulf’ (The Penguin Group NZ 2011). The collision of cultures in early New Zealand, Te Rauparaha, including his foray down to Banks Peninsula in 1830, interweave with a 10th century Old English poem ‘Wulf’ in this narrative. As chairperson, Harry Ricketts will join them in conversation.
Writers on Mondays is presented with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and additional support from Circa Theatre and City Gallery Wellington.
