New Zealand String Quartet & friends present ‘Seven Strings By Candlelight’.

The New Zealand String Quartet’s annual “candlelight” concert at St Mary of the Angels Church has been popular with Wellington concert-goers for many years. This year, New Zealand’s favourite chamber ensemble is joined by musical friends from the NZSO for a rich and varied programme.

Alongside Strauss’s thrilling string septet Metamorphosen, outstanding double bass player Hiroshi Ikematsu will join the Quartet to perform Dvořák’s popular Bass Quintet and the programme will be completed by Kartsigar, from one of New Zealand’s foremost composers John Psathas.

The New Zealand String Quartet is renowned for its dynamic performing style, eloquent communication and beautiful sound, earning the acclaim of critics and the delighted response of audiences. The Quartet has particularly distinguished itself through imaginative programming and the development of an international audience for important new works from New Zealand composers.
