New Zealand on Screen is an unparalleled showcase of Aotearoa identity as seen on screen. From Billy T to Boy, from Gloss to Goodbye Pork Pie, from Peter Snell to The Piano, Hillary to Hudson and Halls, New Zealand On Screen is a stirring affirmation of the best of Aotearoa film and television talent.
An eye-catching installation on the Wellington waterfront made of modified 40ft shipping containers plus an outdoor video tower will display iconic Kiwi TV, short films, clips and music videos during the day, and at night via outdoor projections. The installation will be on the Te Papa Promenade.
The installation is composed of the following zones:
- An identity gateway, giving a stirring introduction to the rich diversity of our national screen culture.
- An interactive area made up of a series of kiosks and a state-of-the-art interactive feature wall. Here visitors will be able to celebrate local communities and locations through their screen stories.
- A retro lounge where people will be able to watch a selection of New Zealand short films presented by the New Zealand Film Commission.
- An interactive e-postcard space where visitors can have their image inserted into a choice of classic New Zealand film scenes which can be emailed to friends and family.
In addition to the two New Zealand On Screen waterfront installations in Wellington and Auckland, during Rugby World Cup 2011, a customised caravan will head on the road, taking Kiwi screen culture to smaller centres and towns around the South Island from Picton to Invercargill. The caravan tour will spend the last fortnight of the tournament in Hagley Park as part of the Fan Zone celebrations.
New Zealand On Screen is presented by www.nzonscreen.com, in partnership with Wellington companies Storybox and Chrometoaster.
NZ On Screen is the free online showcase of New Zealand film, television and music video, funded by NZ On Air.
