Mozart: Sonata for Piano and Violin in A, K305
Beethoven: Sonata for Piano with Horn in F, Op 17
Koechlin: Four Pieces for Horn Trio
Brahms: Horn Trio in E flat, Op 40
This final Sunday concert for 2011 features three Melbourne-based artists performing a programme of works for violin, horn and piano. It includes Brahms’ Horn Trio, Opus 40, written just after the death of his mother in 1865 and filled with melancholy and sentimental remembrance of childhood.
Well known to Wellington audiences as former Concertmaster of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and a founding member of the New Zealand String Quartet, Wilma Smith is currently Concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Andrew Bain is the MSO’s Principal Horn, having studied at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, and then in Germany and Austria. Winner of the prestigious 2006 Australian National Piano Award, Amir Farid maintains a busy career as a solo pianist, associate artist and chamber musician.
This concert will be held in the Ilott Theatre, Wellington Town Hall.
