During Rugby World Cup and the REAL New Zealand Festival eight iconic garments from previous WOW® shows will appear in eight regions throughout New Zealand. These garments are all created by New Zealand designers and have a strong New Zealand feel and flavour to their inspiration, materials or techniques.

At each location you’ll see, up close, a garment from the historic WOW® collection and through compelling stories and audiovisual footage, you’ll learn about the designers and the garments. Through this engaging narration, you’ll see how ordinary people as well as established artists are capable of extraordinary creativity.

The garment on display at Rotorua Museum will be ‘Flora” by Jeff Thompson.

Whilst the show is proudly a New Zealand event, it has gained a reputation as one of the leading events on the international design, fashion and costume calendars. More than a third of the designers that enter each year are from all around the world ensuring that it is an international event staged right here in New Zealand.

The World of Wearable Art® (WOW®) garment collection, housed at the World of Wearable Art® & Classic Cars Museum in Nelson, is part of New Zealand’s heritage, with the inspiration for many of the garments coming from our authentic stories, landscape, history and cultures.

And if that whets your appetite for more, make sure you book to see the WOW® show when you’re in Wellington for that city’s first Rugby World Cup game (South Africa v Wales) on Sunday 11 September).

The 2011 WOW® show season has been specially extended from two to three weeks for Rugby World Cup visitors.
