The Moon Festival is a major celebration in China, Korea and Japan. A special event for this celebration will take place in the Northcote Town Centre.
It will be a free community event of colour, culture and cuisine which features an array of cultural performances from Chinese, Korean & Japanese groups including traditional dance, music and singing.
The event also features authentic Asian food stalls, a host of free children’s entertainment, and special activities such as photographic exhibitions, lanterns and lots of giveaways.
The Moon Festival is a major holiday in China, and is also celebrated in Korea and Japan. Chinese families traditionally get together to eat moon cakes, and watch the moon on Moon Festival night.
In Chinese culture, the full moon is a symbol of peace and prosperity for the whole family. Its roundness symbolizes wholeness and togetherness. In the middle of the eighth month of the Chinese calendar the moon is full, and eight is a popular number in Chinese culture, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.
