Kurt Shanks celebrates the release of his debut E.P. with a show at The Thirsty Dog on K Rd with friends Greg Fleming & The Trains.
It's a double-bill from which you can expect strong story-telling songs, guitars and melody.
The Seven Flights Up E.P. reflects Shanks’ sharp lyrical songwriting and - although it's a distinctly different sound to that of his old band stellar* - strong melodies are still high on the agenda.
Joining him on stage is his band Andrew Thorne, Wayne Bell & Mark Hughes, who all played on the E.P. as well as Shanks' recent support slots for the Steve Kilbey (The Church) and Ricky Maymi tour.
Having released a retrospective double album in 2010 to critical acclaim, Greg Fleming and 5-piece band The Trains will be playing songs from their new album Edge Of The City, currently in production.
Musically, Fleming sits somewhere between Springsteen's E-Street band, Paul Kelly and James McMurtry. Focusing on narrative story lines, Fleming has enough material to fill an encyclopaedia and the musical delivery to sell you the complete set.
The Trains band includes members of Don McGlashan's Seven Sisters, Shaft and others.
