When Al young started playing the blues, Lyndon Johnson was the president of the USA and Keith Holyoake was the prime minister of New Zealand. They are long gone; Al's still here. And between then and now he has established himself as New Zealand's master of the vintage blues. He's played every major folk festival in the country and some in Australia, he's been a featured artist on the annual Beale St mess around in Memphis Tennesee, not once but three times, he won a Tui award before they were called Tui awards, he's even played acoustic blues on New Zealand TV and radio. He's an internationally recognised authority on blues and gospel music, with two books to his credit. But above all he's a great guitar picker known for his mastery of slide style guitar, a powerful singer and a dynamic entertainer.
