The Kawhia Kai Festival is an established annual experience now in its 10th year. Held in Kawhia on Waitangi Day the festival showcases traditional and modern Maaori foods, demonstrations and cultural performances. The Lonely Planet Guide lists the Kawhia Kai Festival in its Top 10 List of Indigenous events for overseas visitors & tourists to attend.
Organiser Hinga Te Whiu will bring a scaled-down version to the Waikato Museum including traditional food and performances. The food will focus on traditional Maaori foods with an emphasis on the local region and specialties. Hinga, also a performer, is ensuring that entertainment contributes to a rounded cultural experience.
Food to be purchased from food stalls.
