The Operas:
Cavalleria rusticana & Pagliacci is opera's most famous double bill, thanks to the first inspired pairing of these two one-act operas in New York in 1903. Nowadays, they’re simply Cav&Pag – verismo works of great realism, high-voltage emotion and scorching entertainment!

Cavalleria rusticana
Pietro Mascagni

Turiddu loves Lola so much he deserts the army. Only to find she has married Alfio. So Turiddu hooks up with Santuzza. But he has an affair with Lola anyway. Which upsets Santuzza. So she tells Alfio. After that, it gets complicated.

Starring English tenor Peter Auty as Turiddu, Ukrainian soprano Anna Shafajinskaia as Santuzza, Polish baritone Marcin Bronikowski as Alfio and kiwi mezzo-soprano Anna Pierard as Lola.

Pagliacci

All the guys love Nedda. But she's married to Canio. Tonio tries it on, but she fights him off with a whip. Then she declares her love to Silvio. Tonio hears this and goes to get Canio. But she refuses to come clean. Then they go on stage to perform together. And it all gets rather ugly.

Starring Mexican tenor Rafael Rojas as Canio, American soprano Elizabeth Futral as Nedda, Australian baritone Warwick Fyfe as Tonio and Marcin Bronikowski as Silvio.

Reuniting for the first time since Faust in 2006 are English director Mike Ashman and New Zealanders John Parker (Set Designer) and Elizabeth Whiting (Costumer Designer).
