Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki presents a screening of archival rugby film footage care of the New Zealand Film Archive. The screening features 17 film clips and newsreels, including rare footage of our national sport.

The beginnings of the great All Blacks are shown in this programme of early film featuring the 1905 'Originals' and the 1924-1925 'Invincibles'. The New Zealand Army Service team, survivors of Gallipoli, play during World War One and the 1927 Māori Rugby team in the United Kingdom are shown.

The programme concludes with colour film of a Springbok Parade in New Plymouth in 1958 and rugby fans camped out in their sleeping bags to secure tickets for a rugby match.

All silent footage will be accompanied by a pianist. Former All Black Sir Wilson Whineray will introduce the Sunday screening.
