We’re having a bit of a fling - of the Highland variety! Celebrate Scotland ceilidh-style with a pipe band, traditional folk songs, Highland dance, and much more for those with Caledonian inclinations!
10:30am-11am - Scots College Chamber Choir:
The Scots College Chamber Choir sings a repertoire of classical and modern songs, including some favourites from Scotland. Wellington Foyer, Level 2.
12-12:45pm - City of Wellington Pipe Band:
The City of Wellington Pipe Band celebrates New Zealand's Scottish heritage and pipe band music. They play a combination of traditional and contemporary tunes on the Highland bagpipes. Tunes to look out for are 'Scotland the Brave', 'Amazing Grace', and 'The Clumsy Lover'. Te Papa Plaza.
2pm-2:45pm - Scottish folk songs:
Rowena Simpson and Stuart Coats, with Douglas Mews on piano, perform beautiful traditional Scottish folk songs from their show Home. Home is the story of Scottish immigrants and World War I. It premiered to great success in the 2010 Wellington Fringe Festival, and will tour New Zealand in 2012. The Marae, Level 4.
3:30pm-3:45pm - Highland dance:
Scottish Highland dance brings you one of Scotland’s oldest forms of folk dance. Wellington Foyer, Level 2.
4pm-4:15pm - Piper Callum Gilchrist:
Piper Callum Gilchrist finishes the day with a selection of favourite Scottish tunes. Wellington Foyer, Level 2.
