Otago Museum has a range of programmes running throughout the school holidays to entertain and excite all ages. Try your skills at capturing the perfect front-page image in our Focal Point Photo Challenge competition, or take an amazing adventure to learn about new cultures and places with the global race trail.

Learn all about the sun and the importance of sun protection as well as the science behind freezing in our Freaky Science Shows. The Tropical Forest gets wet these holidays with a special demonstration focussing on monsoons and how to take shelter from a real rainstorm. Prepare for Christmas with Discovery Squad in December and then join us again in January to explore all that summer has to offer.

Discovery Squad - December and January:
Are your kids looking for a holiday full of fun and excitement? Then sign them up for Discovery Squad at the Otago Museum! Overflowing with awesome themed activities, Discovery Squad is designed to activate and stimulate bright young minds! For full schedule of events refer to our website.
Tuesday 20 December - Friday 24 December and weekdays from Monday 16 January until Friday 27 January, 8:30am-12:30pm. Bring a drink bottle and a packed morning tea, lunch optional.
Ages 5-12, fully supervised. Dress for mess!

Focal Point Photo Challenge
Visitors this summer are challenged to a photographic adventure inside the Museum. Do you have what it takes to get an interesting, quirky, fun photo published in the ODT?

OMazing Race Trail: An Amazing Adventure
Calling all eager explorers! Join us to race around the world in our amazing adventure trail, where you'll discover unusual animals, exotic locations and incredible cultures that are hidden in our wonderful worldly collection!
Daily during the school holidays from Monday 26 December. Collect your trail from the Search Centre Desk, Atrium Level 1.

Tropical Forest Demonstration: Let it rain!
It's Monsoon season... put on a poncho and get set to get wet with the butterflies in a real Tropical Forest rainstorm!
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 10 January to 5 February. 2pm. Tropical Forest.

Colossal Creatures Adventure Tour!

Superbly Stupendous Sun!
It's slip, slop, slap and wrap time... but do we really realise just how important sun protection is? Join our solar-ologist as we explore the amazing blazing star we call the sun!
Tuesday 24th January, Thursday 2 February and Sunday 29 January, 2:30pm. Atrium Level 1.

Incredible Ice!
Get frosty this summer with all things fantastically frozen! Take an explosive look at some intergalactic ice and explore the cool chemistry behind super-chilled water.
