Richard Parker is an internationally renowned award winning ceramicist who is often described as 'a potter's potter'. This exhibition provides insight into the practice of this master maker and highlights his substantial influence on the New Zealand ceramics tradition.
The signature forms Parker uses - the plate, dish and vase - provide the foundation for a seemingly infinite variety of pattern, texture, and colour. Luscious glazes and a distinctive rhythm born of repetition, variation and duplication characterise his art.
Richard Parker: Master of Craft is curated for Objectspace, Auckland by curator, writer, academic and one of New Zealand's most notable collectors of studio ceramics, Richard Fahey. It is the inaugural event in the Masters of Craft series of exhibitions that celebrate the achievements of leading New Zealand makers.
The exhibition is complemented with a catalogue which will be available for sale at The Suter Shop for $35.
