Queenstown JazzFest - Fat Freddy's Drop

Get ready for a night of big sounds, great beats, and a whole lot of dancing, as JazzFest welcomes to the stage legendary Wellington seven-piece Fat Freddy’s Drop.

Known worldwide for their improvised live performance style, combining bottom-heavy funk, jazz, deep dub, and skanking roots reggae. With some soul, sweet vocals, a resident DJ and a horn section bringing an old world jazz charm to their unique fusion of styles, this is a show not to be missed.

More accustomed to playing larger outdoor festivals in the Southern Lakes, this is a special opportunity to get up close and personal with one of New Zealand’s best live acts in the intimacy of Memorial Hall.

And be sure to get in early to experience the outstanding talent of UK trumpeter Matthew Halsall who’s unique hip-hip infused jazz live show will definitely kick start the party. His new project Matthew Halsall: Remixed features turntablist Kristian Gjerstad who picks out loops, chords and melodic samples creating beat-driven soundscapes for Halsall and his band to groove over. This is the jazz of yesternow, funky and new but inspired by the past.
