Since leaving the fair shores of Aotearoa in June with a few gigs booked and some friends to stay with, Olly Knox has traveled and lived by music. The Flax Tour began as an idea and grew into what some have called a brave undertaking, one not without risks. But five months and seven countries later he’s returning home to Northland with a whole lot of new songs and some stories from the road.
And he’s not letting the dust settle either with a show at The Butter Factory on Friday 18th November, and then the week after at The Affordable Arts Exhibition opening in the Dargaville Town Hall.
A folk singer/songwriter originally from the Wairarapa, he moved up to Northland and Dargaville three years ago, often to be seen at The Funky Fish during the open mic nights or in different outfits with local musicians. His meditative and airy style of acoustic folk/rock, as one German listener puts it “is like floating on gentle waves while the sun is sparkling on the water.”
