Te Kōkī, the New Zealand School of Music, presents the final concert in the Friday at 5 series for 2011.

The NZSM Brass Ensemble is proud to join forces with some of New Zealand’s finest brass players from the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Brass Extravaganza. The combined NZSM and NZSO Brass Ensemble will provide a dose of exhilarating musical entertainment as overture to the sporting maelstrom to follow!

Directed by Andrew Jarvis, NZSM Head of Brass studies and NZSO tuba principal, this concert will showcase NZSM brass players, member of New Zealand’s finest tertiary brass programme. "These students are thrilled to perform alongside the professional talents of the NZSO brass section," Andrew says. "Their combined programme is sure to provide an experience both stirring and diverse with some fantastic works that will dazzle any audience and visiting guests."

The NZSM Brass Programme has a comprehensive year of activities and this concert will be the highlight on the ensemble’s calendar. The group is gaining valuable international experience undertaking three international tours and working with Mnozil Brass and Empire Brass at the Melbourne International Festival of Brass. Earlier this year they represented NZSM in a tour and performance exchange with Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University in Brisbane.

The Friday at 5 series are concerts in which the NZSM comes 'downtown', sharing with Wellington audiences music which reaches out and connects us to our past, future, other cultures and to each other. The concerts feature the talent and expertise of NZSM staff, students and friends.
